Could a common food toxin be triggering Crohn's disease?

NCT ID NCT04960826

Summary

This study aims to understand if a toxin called deoxynivalenol (DON), found in some grains, could be an environmental risk factor for developing inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) like Crohn's. Researchers will compare samples from 100 people undergoing intestinal surgery—some with Crohn's and some without—to measure DON levels and see how it affects gut bacteria and health. The goal is to gather knowledge about potential causes of IBD, not to test a treatment.
