Could a simple antibiotic shot slash infection risk in open fractures?

NCT ID NCT04964947

First seen May 18, 2026 · Last updated May 30, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a local injection of the antibiotic tobramycin directly into the wound, alongside standard IV antibiotics, can lower the chance of infection after open fracture surgery. Open fractures have a high risk of infection because blood flow to the injured area is often poor. The trial involves 600 adults with open fractures of the arm or leg and will track infection rates for one year after surgery.
