Could a simple injection slash infection risk in open fractures?
NCT ID NCT04964947
First seen May 18, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding a local antibiotic (tobramycin) directly into the wound, along with standard IV antibiotics, can lower infection rates after open fracture surgery. Open fractures have a high risk of infection because blood flow to the injured area is often poor. The trial involves 600 adults with open fractures of the arm or leg and will track infection rates for one year.
