Wristwatch tech could unlock lifesaving trials for toddlers with rare muscle disease

NCT ID NCT07423026

Summary

This study aims to see if a special watch-like device worn on the ankles can reliably measure walking ability in very young boys (aged 1-3) with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Currently, there's no good way to test how well potential new medicines work in toddlers. The study will involve 60 boys (30 with DMD, 30 without) wearing the devices at home for several weeks to see if they are comfortable and can detect changes in movement. If successful, this tool could allow future drug trials to include younger children, potentially leading to more effective, earlier treatment.
