Liver fluid study halted: did adding albumin help?
NCT ID NCT04216784
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 39 times
Summary
This study looked at whether adding albumin (a protein) to a standard water pill (furosemide) helps remove excess fluid better than the water pill alone in people with liver cirrhosis. The trial planned to enroll 21 adults with fluid buildup in the belly, legs, or lungs. Unfortunately, the study was stopped early because the cost of albumin was not covered, so no results are available.
