Dentists test if decay location determines tooth survival
NCT ID NCT07578662
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether the position of a deep cavity (on the chewing surface or between teeth) affects how well a tooth-saving procedure called direct pulp capping works. Researchers will treat 154 people aged 15-40 with reversible pulpitis, a condition where tooth pain goes away quickly after a trigger. The goal is to see if teeth heal better when decay is on top versus between teeth, using X-rays and pain checks over 12 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
direct pulp capping procedure
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help dentists choose better treatments for deep cavities, potentially saving more teeth from root canals.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 154 participants. Results may not apply to all patients, and the procedure may fail if bleeding cannot be controlled.
