Stroke patients taken directly to treatment may recover better
NCT ID NCT03969511
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether taking people with severe stroke symptoms directly to the angio-suite for clot removal, instead of first doing a CT or MRI scan, leads to better recovery at 3 months. About 120 adults aged 18-85 with severe stroke were randomly assigned to either direct angio-suite admission or standard care. The goal was to see if faster treatment improves independence in daily activities.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that faster treatment by skipping initial scans improves independence after severe stroke.
What could go wrong
The trial was terminated early with only 120 participants, so results may be inconclusive. Direct transfer might not benefit all patients and could miss other treatable conditions.
