Digital tool aims to make gummy smile surgery more precise

This study tested whether a custom digital surgical guide helps dentists perform crown lengthening more accurately than the usual method. Twenty-four adults with gummy smiles due to a condition called altered passive eruption took part. The digital guide uses 3D scans and imaging to plan both gum and bone removal, while the traditional method relies on the dentist's visual judgment and manual measurements. The researchers measured how much tooth showed after three months, along with surgery time, pain, and satisfaction.
