First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a whole food plant-based diet, low in red and processed meats, can lower LDL (bad) cholesterol in adults with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH), a genetic condition that causes high cholesterol. Fifty participants followed either a plant-based diet or a standard North American diet in a crossover design. The goal was to see if diet changes could help manage cholesterol levels and identify a unique metabolic signature of healthy eating.
