Arthritis in kids: could a diet change ease joint pain?

NCT ID NCT06474546

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a Mediterranean diet can improve arthritis symptoms in children by changing the bacteria in their gut. Fifty-four children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis will follow the diet for 8 weeks, with an option to continue for 4 more weeks. Researchers will collect stool and blood samples, along with diet and symptom reports, to see if the diet reduces disease activity and alters the gut microbiome. The goal is to determine if a larger, more definitive study is possible.
