Breathing technique may offer Drug-Free relief for menstrual cramps
NCT ID NCT07754305
First seen Aug 10, 2026 · Last updated Aug 11, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether an 8-week program of coordinated breathing and pelvic floor exercises can reduce pain and improve quality of life in university women aged 18-24 with primary dysmenorrhea (painful periods without underlying disease). Participants will either do the exercise program or receive standard care like TENS and heat therapy. The study measures pain severity and quality of life to see if this non-drug approach could be a helpful option.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Diaphragm-Pelvic Floor Synergy (DPFS) Training - a supervised 8-week exercise program combining breathing techniques and pelvic floor muscle coordination
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this drug-free exercise program could offer young women a way to reduce menstrual pain, cut down on painkillers, and improve daily life and school attendance.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial, so results may not apply broadly. The training requires commitment and may not work for everyone, and it's compared to standard care like heat therapy.
