Hospital biobank aims to Fast-Track rapid tests for future outbreaks
NCT ID NCT07411729
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is creating a large collection of leftover blood, urine, and other samples from 800 hospitalized patients. The samples will be stored with medical data to help researchers develop and evaluate rapid diagnostic tests for emerging infectious diseases and biological threats. No extra procedures are needed—only samples already taken during routine care are used. The goal is to be better prepared for future outbreaks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this biobank could speed up the creation of rapid diagnostic tests for new infectious diseases and bioterrorism threats, improving outbreak response.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational registry, not a treatment trial. It collects existing samples and data, so it does not directly test any intervention or guarantee that useful diagnostics will result.
