New drug may reduce coughing after thyroid surgery

Summary

This study tests if giving a drug called dexmedetomidine during thyroid surgery helps patients wake up more smoothly. The goal is to reduce coughing, agitation, and the need for painkillers. About 100 adults having thyroid surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either the drug plus standard anesthesia or standard anesthesia alone.
