New sedative may cut delirium risk in ventilated kids

NCT ID NCT07542990

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether dexmedetomidine, a sedative, can lower the chance of delirium (sudden confusion) in children who need a breathing machine in the ICU. About 266 children aged 1 month to 17 years will be randomly assigned to receive either dexmedetomidine or the standard drug midazolam. The main goal is to see if fewer children experience delirium with dexmedetomidine.
