New hospital study aims to catch dangerous muscle wasting in seniors sooner

NCT ID NCT07454759

Summary

This study aims to better understand and detect a condition called acute sarcopenia, which is a rapid loss of muscle mass and strength that can happen to older adults during a hospital stay. Researchers will follow 280 patients aged 65 and older, using simple strength tests and an ultrasound scan to measure muscles. The goal is to learn how common this muscle loss is, what puts patients at risk, and how it affects their recovery and health after leaving the hospital.
