No-Chemo embolization tackles rare desmoid tumors
NCT ID NCT06945887
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether blocking the blood supply to desmoid tumors (using tiny particles injected into the arteries) can shrink the tumor and reduce pain without using chemotherapy. It will follow 20 people aged 12 and older who have painful, growing desmoid tumors that cannot be treated with surgery or freezing. The goal is to see if this gentler approach works and improves quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
embolization therapy (injection of hydrogel microspheres into tumor-feeding arteries)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a chemo-free way to shrink desmoid tumors and ease pain, potentially avoiding surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small observational study (20 people) with no control group, so results may not apply broadly. Risks include incomplete tumor shrinkage or side effects from the procedure.
