Desmoid tumor study: just watching may be enough

NCT ID NCT04281381

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study follows 100 people with desmoid-type fibromatosis, a rare tumor, for 12 months without giving any treatment. The goal is to see how often the tumors stay stable or shrink on their own. Participants get regular MRI or CT scans to track changes. The results could help doctors decide when to treat and when to simply watch.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that many desmoid tumors grow slowly or stay stable, helping doctors avoid unnecessary treatments.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study with no treatment given, so it won't directly help participants. It may also find that some tumors grow quickly, requiring intervention.
