Heart surgery anesthesia showdown: could one drug save more lives?

Summary
This study tests whether the inhaled anesthetic desflurane is better than propofol at preventing major heart events like death, heart failure, or heart attack in adults undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery. About 3,560 participants will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two anesthetics. The goal is to see if desflurane offers extra heart protection during and after the procedure.
