Scientists probe gut and brain links to depression treatment

NCT ID NCT00285935

Summary

This study aimed to understand how depression and antidepressant treatment affect natural brain chemicals and gut bacteria. Researchers compared 228 adults with depression to healthy adults, measuring blood chemicals, memory, mood, and stool samples over 8 weeks of antidepressant treatment. The goal was to identify biological markers that change when depression improves, to better understand how these treatments work.
