Diabetes drug could be new hope for depression

NCT ID NCT05757791

Summary

This small, early-stage study is testing if a medication called empagliflozin, which is normally used for type 2 diabetes, can help reduce symptoms of major depression. Researchers think the drug might help by helping the body produce ketones, which can serve as an alternative fuel for the brain. The study will enroll about 16 adults with moderate to severe depression to see if their symptoms improve after taking the drug.
