Could a simple injection replace gum surgery? stem cells from teeth show promise
NCT ID NCT07574840
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether stem cells taken from donated teeth can be safely injected into the gums to treat periodontitis, a serious gum infection that damages tissue and bone. The goal is to help regrow lost gum and bone without the need for traditional surgery. The trial will enroll 30 adults with advanced gum disease and measure changes in pocket depth and bone regrowth over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
allogeneic dental pulp stem cells
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a needle-based alternative to surgery for periodontitis, helping regrow gum and bone tissue.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small trial (30 people) testing safety and effectiveness. Stem cell treatments often face hurdles, and results may not apply to all patients.
