App and therapy take on dental fear in major new study
NCT ID NCT06024395
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a stepped-care approach for dental fear: first a self-guided mobile app, then a one-on-one telehealth session if needed. Researchers will compare this to usual care in 1,000 participants aged 13 and older. The goal is to see if the intervention reduces fear and improves quality of life related to oral health.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Cognitive-behavioral therapy via mobile app and telehealth session
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer an accessible, low-cost way to help people overcome dental fear and improve their oral health.
What could go wrong
This is a behavioral intervention study, not a drug trial. Results depend on participant engagement and may not generalize to all settings. The app and therapy may not work for everyone.
