Simple checklist aims to ease silent suffering of dementia patients in ER

NCT ID NCT06370572

Summary

This study tested whether a simple checklist could help emergency room staff better recognize and treat pain in people with dementia. Researchers enrolled 714 older adults with dementia who came to the ER with hip pain. They checked if prompting doctors to use a special pain observation scale led to faster and better pain relief for these vulnerable patients.
