Surgery side effects double threat: confusion and weakness linked to higher death risk in seniors
NCT ID NCT07259850
Summary
This study followed 6,196 adults aged 65+ having non-emergency surgery to understand how post-surgery confusion (delirium) affects physical frailty and survival. Researchers tracked patients' strength and health before surgery, checked for confusion after surgery, and followed up at one month and one year. The goal was to learn if these two common problems together create greater risk for older patients recovering from operations.
