Spinal surgery showdown: which procedure works best?

NCT ID NCT02348645

First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tested whether it is possible to run a larger trial comparing two common surgeries for a condition where the lower spine is narrow and one bone has slipped forward. The two surgeries are: decompression alone (relieving pressure) and decompression with fusion (joining bones together). The goal was to see if patients would agree to be randomly assigned to one surgery and to gather early data on how well each works. 70 adults with at least 6 months of symptoms took part.
