New tool may spare women unnecessary organ removal during bladder cancer surgery

NCT ID NCT06184516

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a decision tool to help select women with bladder cancer who can safely keep their reproductive organs during bladder removal surgery. Currently, standard surgery removes the bladder, uterus, ovaries, and part of the vagina, which can harm sexual health, mental health, and increase heart and bone risks. The tool uses MRI and cystoscopy to identify low-risk patients, aiming to preserve quality of life without compromising cancer control. About 127 women will participate.
