Can less be more? study tests cutting back antibiotics in sepsis
NCT ID NCT01626612
First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study looked at whether it is safe to reduce or narrow antibiotics once doctors know which germ is causing a severe infection (sepsis). 120 intensive care patients were randomly assigned to either continue their original broad antibiotics or switch to a more targeted treatment. The goal was to see if the de-escalation approach could keep patients safe while reducing the risk of drug-resistant infections.
