Gene-Guided blood thinner switch may cut bleeding risk in heart attack survivors

NCT ID NCT05577988

First seen Jan 19, 2026 · Last updated Jun 04, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a quick genetic test to choose a milder blood thinner (clopidogrel or aspirin) instead of a stronger one (ticagrelor or prasugrel) can reduce bleeding in people at high risk after a heart attack. About 2,468 participants will be randomly assigned to either the gene-guided approach or standard strong therapy. The goal is to see if the personalized strategy leads to fewer bleeding problems while still preventing future heart issues.
