New drug aims to control blood sugar in kids with rare condition
NCT ID NCT03941236
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing the long-term safety of dasiglucagon, a drug given as a continuous injection under the skin, in children with congenital hyperinsulinism (a condition causing dangerously low blood sugar). The trial includes 42 children who completed earlier studies. Researchers will monitor side effects and check if the drug helps reduce the need for tube feeding or surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
dasiglucagon (a glucagon analog given as a continuous injection under the skin)
What this could lead to
If successful, dasiglucagon could provide a long-term treatment option to control blood sugar levels in children with congenital hyperinsulinism, potentially reducing the need for tube feeding or surgery.
What could go wrong
This is an extension trial with no placebo group, so results may be less definitive. The drug may cause side effects, and long-term benefits are not guaranteed.
