New hope for Crohn's patients: repeat stem cell treatment tested for stubborn fistulas

NCT ID NCT04118088

First seen Jan 26, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study looked at the long-term safety of giving a second dose of darvadstrocel (a stem cell therapy) to adults with Crohn's disease and complex anal fistulas. 53 participants received one treatment and were monitored for side effects and symptom improvement over several clinic visits and MRI scans. The study was ended early, but the main goal was to see if repeat treatment is safe and helps close fistulas.
