First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether a twice-weekly ballroom dance program for 6 months can improve physical fitness, mood, and quality of life in adults aged 50 and older. About 110 healthy volunteers will be assigned to dance, multicomponent exercise, or no intervention. Researchers will measure changes in fitness, depression, anxiety, sleep, and thinking skills.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a fun, social way for older adults to stay active and improve their physical and emotional health.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with 110 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The benefits of dance may not be greater than other types of exercise.
