Summary

This study tested whether taking vitamin D every day can lower the chance of serious lung problems in children and teens with sickle cell disease. Researchers compared daily vitamin D to monthly doses in 58 participants aged 3 to 20. The goal was to see if daily supplementation could reduce respiratory infections, asthma attacks, and acute chest syndrome by at least half within the first year.
