Simple bladder fill trick may cut surgery injuries in dangerous pregnancy condition
NCT ID NCT07050082
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a simple technique called cystoinflation—filling the bladder with 200 mL of saline during surgery—to see if it prevents bladder injury in women with placenta accreta spectrum (PAS). 84 women were randomly assigned to receive the bladder fill or standard surgery. The goal was to see if this method reduces bladder tears and improves safety during delivery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Bladder filling with saline (cystoinflation)
What this could lead to
If effective, this simple technique could become standard practice to reduce bladder injuries during high-risk deliveries.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center trial with 84 participants. Results may not apply to all hospitals or patients, and the technique itself carries a small risk of bladder overdistension.
