New anthrax vaccine under review for Post-Exposure protection

NCT ID NCT07268612

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will look at 250 people who received the CYFENDUS anthrax vaccine after being exposed to anthrax bacteria during a mass event. Researchers want to see if the vaccine, given along with antibiotics, can prevent inhalational anthrax and anthrax meningitis. The study is observational, meaning it will analyze data from past events rather than testing the vaccine in a new controlled experiment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

CYFENDUS anthrax vaccine

What this could lead to

If this study shows the vaccine works well, it could confirm a safe and effective way to prevent anthrax after a large-scale exposure.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a controlled trial, so results may be less reliable. The study is small and only looks at past events, so it cannot prove cause and effect.
