Could a cheaper copy of ocrevus work just as well for MS?
NCT ID NCT06847724
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 3 trial tests whether CYB704, a proposed biosimilar to the MS drug Ocrevus, works the same way in the body. About 183 people with relapsing multiple sclerosis will receive either CYB704 or Ocrevus. Researchers will compare drug levels, MRI scans, and side effects to see if the biosimilar is a viable alternative.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Ocrelizumab (proposed biosimilar CYB704)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, CYB704 could offer a more affordable treatment option for relapsing multiple sclerosis, potentially increasing access to care.
- What could go wrong
- This is a biosimilar study, not a new drug. Even if CYB704 matches Ocrevus in the body, long-term safety and effectiveness still need confirmation. As with Ocrevus, risks include infusion reactions and increased infection risk.
