Turmeric compound tested as sepsis treatment in new trial
NCT ID NCT07436130
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, can help regulate the overactive immune response in critically ill patients with sepsis. Fifty-six participants will receive either curcumin or a placebo alongside standard care for 10 days. Researchers will measure changes in inflammatory markers in the blood to see if curcumin can reduce harmful inflammation.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
curcumin (a natural compound from turmeric)
What this could lead to
If it works, curcumin could become a low-cost addition to standard sepsis care, helping to control harmful inflammation and potentially improving recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial (56 people) testing only a blood marker, not survival or major outcomes. Curcumin may show no benefit or could interact with other treatments.
