Blood test may spot liver cancer recurrence before scans do
NCT ID NCT06157060
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a blood test that looks for tiny bits of tumor DNA (called ctDNA) can predict if liver cancer will come back after surgery. Researchers will follow 255 patients for two years, taking blood samples regularly to see if the test detects recurrence earlier than standard imaging. If it works, this could lead to earlier treatment and better outcomes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) blood test
What this could lead to
If successful, this blood test could help doctors detect liver cancer recurrence months earlier than standard imaging, allowing for timely treatment.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with 255 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The test may not reliably predict recurrence in every case.
