Blood test may predict rectal cancer remission without surgery

NCT ID NCT05629442

First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple blood test can detect genetic material from rectal cancer tumors (ctDNA) to predict if the cancer has fully responded to treatment. Researchers will follow 60 adults with non-spreading rectal cancer who receive standard chemotherapy and radiation. The goal is to see if ctDNA testing can help decide when it's safe to avoid surgery and monitor for cancer return more accurately than routine scans.
