Freezing nerves may get teens home faster after chest surgery
NCT ID NCT05731973
First seen Mar 27, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study tested if freezing the nerves between the ribs (cryoablation) could help teens and young adults leave the hospital sooner after surgery to fix a sunken chest (pectus excavatum). Half of the 50 participants received the nerve freezing, while the other half got standard pain medicine through an epidural. The main goal was to see if the freezing method shortened hospital stays and reduced pain.
