Fighting superbugs with a Finger-Prick test and a leaflet

NCT ID NCT07261969

Summary

This study aims to fight antibiotic resistance by helping doctors in Kyrgyzstan prescribe antibiotics more wisely for common respiratory infections like coughs and colds. It will test if giving patients an information leaflet about when antibiotics are needed, and using a simple finger-prick blood test (CRP) to check for inflammation, can safely reduce unnecessary antibiotic use. Around 1,050 adults with respiratory symptoms will be randomly assigned to receive either the leaflet or not, and their doctor will use one of three different result levels from the blood test to decide on treatment.
