One-Leg workout may boost both legs in seniors

NCT ID NCT07155967

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether doing resistance training on just one leg, while using a blood flow restriction cuff, can also improve strength in the untrained leg—a phenomenon called cross-education. Researchers will enroll 32 older women and measure muscle strength, size, and function over time. The goal is to find a gentle, effective exercise option for seniors who cannot handle heavy weights.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Blood Flow Restriction Cuff

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a safe, low-cost exercise method for older adults to maintain leg strength and mobility without heavy weights.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 32 participants. The results may not apply to all older adults, and the training may not produce meaningful strength gains.
