Lockdown life: did staying home help young diabetics manage blood sugar?

NCT ID NCT04669912

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at how the COVID-19 lockdown changed blood sugar control and self-care in 77 young people aged 13 to 25 with type 1 diabetes. Researchers used data from a glucose monitoring platform to compare blood sugar levels before, during, and after the two-month lockdown in France. The goal was to see if the lockdown led to better glucose control and more consistent use of glucose sensors.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could show that certain lifestyle changes during lockdown improved diabetes management, pointing to new ways to support young people with type 1 diabetes.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed observational study, not a treatment trial. Results may not apply to all young people with diabetes, and any improvements seen might not last outside lockdown conditions.
