Booster battle: which COVID-19 vaccine boosts immunity best?
NCT ID NCT05057169
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a third dose of either the CoronaVac or Comirnaty vaccine boosts immunity better in adults who had two prior doses at least six months earlier. Researchers measured antibody levels in 451 participants from Hong Kong 28 days after the booster. The goal was to see which booster triggers a stronger immune response.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
COVID-19 booster vaccines (CoronaVac or Comirnaty)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help determine which booster vaccine provides stronger immune protection after initial vaccination.
What could go wrong
This is a completed Phase 4 trial with 451 participants, so results are limited to antibody levels and may not reflect real-world protection against new variants.
