Simple breathing device could protect cancer survivors from dangerous pneumonia

NCT ID NCT02662907

Summary

This study is testing whether a breathing exercise device can help head and neck cancer survivors who have had radiation therapy. The device strengthens muscles used for coughing and swallowing, which may reduce the risk of pneumonia caused by accidentally inhaling saliva. About 175 participants will use the device at home for 8 weeks while being monitored by speech therapists.
