Summary

This study aimed to find the best ways to collect, process, and store umbilical cord blood from newborns with sickle cell disease, sickle cell trait, or normal hemoglobin. The stored blood may be used in future treatments like stem cell transplants or gene therapy for the child or a sibling with sickle cell disease.
