Summary
This study is testing two different approaches to sedation for people with severe COPD who need help breathing from a ventilator. Researchers want to see if using no sedation at all or briefly stopping sedation each day helps patients spend fewer days on the breathing machine. They are enrolling 60 adults with COPD who are in the intensive care unit and require a ventilator to breathe.
