Scientists sniff out why some COPD patients get sick more often
NCT ID NCT04901455
First seen Feb 26, 2026 · Last updated Apr 09, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study aimed to understand how the immune system in the nose responds to a nasal flu vaccine in people with COPD, especially those who get frequent symptom flare-ups. Researchers compared 24 people with COPD and healthy volunteers, giving them the nasal spray vaccine and then collecting samples from their noses and blood over several days. The goal was to see if differences in the nasal immune response could explain why some people with COPD get sick more often.
