Scientists sniff out why some COPD patients get sicker

NCT ID NCT04901455

Summary

This small, early-stage study aimed to understand how the immune system in the nose responds to the nasal flu vaccine in people with COPD, a chronic lung disease. Researchers compared people with COPD who get frequent symptom flare-ups to those who don't, and to healthy people, by giving everyone the nasal vaccine and taking samples from inside the nose. The goal was to learn if differences in the nasal immune response might explain why some people with COPD get sick more often.
