Blood and spinal fluid samples could unlock better tests for rare neurological diseases
NCT ID NCT05370079
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study collects blood and optional spinal fluid samples from 350 people with Parkinson's, ALS, glioblastoma, certain cancers, or rheumatoid arthritis. The goal is to find new genetic markers that could lead to better diagnostic tests for autoimmune encephalitis and paraneoplastic neurological syndromes, which are rare and hard to diagnose. Participants provide samples once, and no treatment is given.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to more accurate diagnostic tests for rare neurological conditions like autoimmune encephalitis.
What could go wrong
This is an observational sample-collection study, not a treatment trial. It may not directly benefit participants and results may take years to apply.
