New monitor could prevent dangerous side effect of diabetes drug
NCT ID NCT07211802
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether wearing a continuous ketone monitor alongside a glucose monitor can reduce the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious side effect) when taking the drug sotagliflozin. About 52 adults with type 1 diabetes will take low and high doses of sotagliflozin while using the monitor. The goal is to see if the monitor helps keep ketone levels safe, potentially allowing more people to benefit from this drug.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Sotagliflozin (low and high dose) and a dual continuous glucose/ketone monitor
What this could lead to
If successful, this could make SGLT inhibitors safer for people with type 1 diabetes, reducing the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis and improving blood sugar management.
What could go wrong
This is a small phase 3 trial with only 52 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The ketone monitor's accuracy and the drug's side effects still pose risks.
